About Joneve

Joneve is an organic farmer and elemental artist with over two decades of experience in agriculture and sustainable practices. Her journey began in 2003 in the Boston area, where she grew food for wholesale markets, CSA programs, and high-end restaurants. This early experience laid the foundation for her understanding of diverse market needs and culinary demands.

In 2006, Joneve moved to Vermont, working on several farms and deepening her expertise in market gardening and restaurant supply. 2009 saw her relocate to Virginia, where she eventually took on the challenge of establishing and managing a farm for a Michelin three-star restaurant in Rappahannock. This role allowed her to perfect the art of growing premium, chef-quality produce.

Driven by curiosity and a desire for global perspective, Joneve embarked on a transformative two-year sabbatical in 2014. This journey took her across 18 countries, where she lived and worked on over 200 farms. From vegetables and fruits to exotic crops like coffee and coconuts, Joneve immersed herself in a wide array of agricultural practices, enriching her understanding of farming in diverse climates and conditions.

Throughout her career, Joneve has nurtured a passion for integrating art into agriculture. For years, she has been creating natural structures within gardens, crafting functional art that supports climbing plants and adds aesthetic value to the landscape. Her approach to garden design is holistic, combining principles of permaculture, aesthetics, and functionality. Joneve excels at creating gardens that are not only productive but also visually stunning, incorporating elements like woven trellises, living sculptures, and thoughtfully planned color schemes that evolve with the seasons.

In 2021, Joneve's artistic journey expanded as she delved into the world of botanical pigments. Starting with her first indigo plot, she has since developed expertise in growing, foraging, and painting with her own botanical inks, bridging her agricultural knowledge with her artistic inclinations.

Today, Joneve offers consulting services spanning small farm design, garden planning, pigment gardens, functional garden art, and traditional wattle fencing. She brings to each project a rare combination of extensive farming experience, global perspective, artistic vision, and a deep commitment to sustainable practices. Whether optimizing a small farm's layout, designing a school's pigment garden, or crafting a beautiful yet functional trellis, Joneve's work is always rooted in a profound respect for nature and a desire to create harmony between human needs and the natural world.

Joneve lives in Rappahannock County with her two beloved dogs, Merry and Pippin. In her spare time, you can find her foraging for natural colors in the surrounding wilderness, taking a refreshing dip in a nearby pond, or tending to her backyard indigo fermentation experiments. These personal pursuits not only fuel her passion for natural dyeing but also deepen her connection to the local ecosystem, continuously inspiring her work and creative process.
